Denny’s Restaurant

Introducing Munchie Mondays! Every Monday I will be featuring one restaurant I tried and liked eating at during the fun work week. It’ll be my spin and ratings on Customer Service, Ambiance, and Quality of food and Presentation. Also feel free to follow me on Yelp. Look up! Instead of DIY foods, my food opinions will be more around…Buy It Yourself foods–AKA food You buy or in this case that I buy. I purchase foods more often than I do to cooking it. Not only does my job make me work long hours, but my grandpa and dad were self-taught chefs so I’ve never had to cook (Unfortunately they never let me in the kitchen when they were doing their magic)! But, if you’re lucky, maybe I’ll try some recipes from great foods I love eating, and you’ll be fortunate enough to see me grow as an amateur chef! Hopefully, it will be edible. I’ll record my face as I eat it 😉

This week I’m choosing Denny’s! I’m reviewing the one at 1881 Ridge Road, West Seneca, NY 14224. Although they’re all over the place since it’s a chain.

Denny’s the breakfast chain has become one of my new favorites! It’s like a five-minute drive from my house. Prior to eating here due to convenience, I had not eaten here since college. To me it is a place for poor college kids who just want to eat a lot of junk for less. Ever since giving it more of a chance, here in WNY, I’ve come to like it a lot more!

Not only is this location one that caters to a lot of older people (which I love! But maybe they all do and my neighborhood is full of old people), but I’ve started to actually look at the food choices and it seems to really take care of all my cravings.

I seem to go to Denny’s for two reasons- because I’m craving a fatty breakfast or a healthy meal, and because I’m saving money (always- won’t stop till I’m a well-off retired person or a billionaire, whichever comes first).

Recently, I’ve gone from a Denny’s food junkie (chocolate chip pancakes, extra crispy bacon, extra cheese omelets) to enjoying Denny’s FIT Fare options. I’m on a new diet where I eat as little processed carbs in a week as possible, and consume lots of fruits/veggies.

Today I ordered the Fit SLAM. I honestly didn’t consider even ordering it because the image of it was so bland. However, I am trying to eat healthy on a budget, and after careful consideration of possible requests, I did it!

So for just under $9.00 you can eat this many calories/nutrients:

“Egg whites scrambled together with fresh spinach and grape tomatoes, plus two turkey bacon strips, an English muffin and seasonal fruit. Gluten Free when you choose the Gluten Free English Muffin” (from the main website). The only thing that’s still high is the salt but what can ya do when you ain’t cooking? 😦 I ordered the whole thing minus the English muffins which I substituted for more fruits- In my opinion- totally worth it.

I also ordered a banana strawberry smoothie (but without the nonfat yogurt) and that was delightful! Not only is it gluten free, it’s made with real fruit! It’s only 250 calories and I consider drinking it for a nice snack after a good workout!

This will definitely become one of my go-to meal for my winter diet. And maybe it will yours too if you’re looking for something light, cheap, and if there’s a Denny’s near you!
